Benefits and Uses

Comfrey, often called "knitbone", is a powerhouse herb valued for its healing properties, especially for the skin, muscles, and bones. Its high allantoin content promotes cell regeneration and tissue repair, making it a go-to herb in traditional remedies.

Key Benefits

Wound and Skin Healing

Accelerates healing of cuts, scrapes, burns, and bruises.

Reduces scarring when applied topically.

Bone and Joint Support

Used traditionally to support bone healing (e.g., fractures and sprains).

Eases joint pain and inflammation in arthritis or injuries.

Anti-Inflammatory

Helps reduce swelling and inflammation, making it ideal for sore muscles and sprains.

Skin Soothing

Calms eczema, rashes, and other skin irritations.

Hydrates and softens dry or damaged skin.

Tissue Repair

Supports cell growth and repair for damaged tissues.

May assist in healing minor ulcers and sores when applied topically.

How to Use Dried Comfrey

Comfrey is used as a tea

For upset stomach, ulcers, heavy menstrual periods, diarrhea, bloody urine, persistent cough, painful breathing (pleuritis), bronchitis, cancer, and chest pain (angina). It is also used as a gargle for gum disease and sore throat.

Herbal Poultice

Mix powdered comfrey with warm water to create a paste. Apply to bruises, sprains, or minor wounds and cover with a cloth.

Infused Oil

Infuse dried comfrey in a carrier oil (like olive or almond oil) for 4–6 weeks. Use the oil to massage sore joints or to make salves and creams.

Salve/Balm

Combine comfrey-infused oil with beeswax to create a healing salve for cuts, scrapes, and dry skin.

Compress

Steep dried comfrey in hot water, soak a cloth in the infusion, and apply to swollen or inflamed areas.

Herbal Bath

Add dried comfrey to a muslin bag or tea infuser and let it steep in your bathwater. This soothes skin and relaxes sore muscles.

Homemade Skincare

Include powdered comfrey in face masks or serums for hydration and healing properties.

Cautions

Pregnancy and Nursing: Avoid during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Open Wounds: Do not use comfrey on deep wounds or punctures, as it may heal the surface too quickly, trapping infection inside.

Comfrey  is a truly versatile herb for external

& internal wellness applications, making it an essential addition to your herbal collection.
